144.2…A Dinner Party
I’ve been to quite a few dinner parties but last night I attended one that took the cake.
My friend’s Sherry and Rich invited us and two other couples over for dinner. When we arrived to their beautiful home, they had an amazing display of appetizers ready.
Mozzarella and Smoked Red Pepper Crostini:
Cheese Puff Rounds (my personal favorite):
Let’s not forget the Pomegranate Champagne Cocktail:
Sherry makes these amazing Chipotle and Rosemary Roasted Nuts:
You have to make these. Prepare to eat them all at once.
After my champagne cocktail, I moved on to some red wine:
When we sat down to dinner, there was a menu at each seat. What a nice touch!
The first course was a Endive, Pear & Roquefort Salad with Champagne Vinaigrette:
Now you know I don’t normally like “fruit in my food” right? Well, I ate all my pears because they were so good! I think Sherry marinated them in something because they were especially delicious.
The main course was extremely impressive.
Roast Filet of Beef with Rosemary-Green Peppercorn Sauce, Mashed Potatoes with Mascarpone Cheese and Chive Butter and Roasted Asparagus.
Wow. I felt like I was at a fancy steak house. Except I was in someone’s home with good friends. I was smiling ear to ear!
As if things couldn’t get any better, they did.
Warm Molten Chocolate Cake with Ice Cream and Chocolate Cabernet Sauce.
I died.
I always thought I was a pretty decent hostess but Sherry made me realize I have a lot to learn! :) If you look up the term “Hostess with the Mostess” in the dictionary (or wherever you look up phrases) you will see a picture of my friend Sherry.
So…today’s going to be a busy one. It’s my daughter’s 5th birthday party and we are having tons of people over. I spent the morning getting set up, appetizers/desserts made and cleaning up. Breakfast eventually happened.
Scrambled egg beaters, diced jalapeno, shredded Mexican blend cheese, avocado slices and salsa.
Lots of work to do…..
What is your entertaining style? Casual or Elegant? I normally serve everything buffet style and extremely casual. For Thanksgiving I serve on my wedding china but everyone is in sweats. :)
