Turning Up The Heat in Las Vegas
I’m not sure how two days flew by so fast. I guess the saying is true: time flies when you’re having fun!
Thursday night I kept things easy for dinner. I defrosted some sloppy joe mix and hamburger buns. Along with some Alexia waffle fries, dinner was done!
I made a big salad to go with it.
Friday morning’s breakfast was a toasted English muffin with egg beaters and a slice of cheese. I also had a side of strawberries.
I took the kids to school and then came home to meet our friends, John and Kate, to head to Las Vegas! We got into my car and hit the road. We stopped about half way in Barstow at Del Taco (my husband’s favorite fast food restaurant) for lunch. I really appreciated the basket of hot sauce at each table.
Speaking of hot sauce, I think I met someone more obsessed/addicted to hot sauce than me and I didn’t think that was possible. Kate taught me a ton of hot sauce tricks this past weekend….things I never thought to put it on or do…like mixing Tabasco with ranch dressing. Why have I never thought of this?
Anyway…back to Del Taco….I ordered fish tacos and fries.
And it basically sucked. It’s not like I was expecting a whole lot from Del Taco but I remember it being better than that. Oh well. I did use a ton of hot sauce from the basket though. I love not being limited on my hot sauce. :)
We arrived at the Cosmopolitan hotel and checked in. We did a bit of gambling and then picked up a snack for the room.
Wine, chips, guacamole and lots of hot sauce.
We all hung out for awhile before getting ready for dinner at Circo in the Bellagio.
Me, my husband, John and Kate:
To start, I ordered the Insalata Mista: organic mixed field greens, marinated campari tomatoes, percorino cheese and balsamic vinaigrette.
Circo is one of my favorite restaurants in Las Vegas. This is not because of the fabulous view of the Bellagio water show but for a certain pasta dish that I order every time I go there: Pici Toscani: Hand-rolled thick spaghetti, Bolognese sauce and aged pecorino cheese.
I cannot explain how much I love this pasta. I love everything about it: the hand-made noodles, the rich meat sauce and the big shavings of cheese on top. Every bite is better than the last. If I could make this dish at home, I would be extremely please with life.
We shared a Grand Marnier soufflé for dessert.
After dinner, we gambled a bit more and then went to bed.
Saturday morning we headed to the pool for the day.
Champagne is a good way to start your day.
We went to the pool restaurant for breakfast. I ordered the omelet which had bacon, cheese, onion and avocado. It came with a side of potatoes and an English muffin.
The potatoes were especially delicious! Kate and I both wanted hot sauce and almost finished an entire bottle of Cholula with our breakfasts. What can I say?? We like it hot! :)
We spent the entire day at the pool, enjoying the sun, sipping more champagne and watching the Kentucky Derby. I enjoyed a late lunch of fish tacos (with a side of Cholula).
It was a rough day. :)
We went back to our rooms to get ready for the Mayweather/Cotto boxing fight. All ready to go!
The Cosmopolitan hotel has balconies which is so awesome….the weather there was perfect this past weekend!
We had great seats for the fight!
Mayweather won!
When Floyd Mayweather came out for the fight, he was accompanied by the rapper 50 Cent AND Justin Beiber of all people! It was a weird combination if you ask me!
Here is Justin Beiber leaving the ring after the fight.
Sorry the picture is hard to see.
After the fight we made our way back to the hotel for a late dinner at Hollsteins.
I ordered the Gold Standard Burger (Dry aged beef sirloin burger with smoked bacon, aged goat cheddar cheese, tomato confit, baby arugula and garlic-chive aioli) with steak fries. This is the 3rd time I’ve been to Hollsteins and each time it’s fabulous! This burger was no exception…it was awesome!
This morning we all ordered room service for breakfast. I ordered the breakfast burrito. Room service informed us that they did not have any hot sauce (!!). So our husbands went downstairs to the restaurant we ate breakfast at the day before and got some Cholula hot sauce to go. I decided that it would not be enough for Kate and I, so I went back to get some more. It is an obsession.
I only planned to eat half but finished the whole thing. It was that good.
We packed up at hit the road for home. We stopped in Victorville at the Texas Roadhouse. They have bins of peanuts everywhere and you can throw the shells on the floor.
I ordered a BLT and fries for lunch.
Following Kate’s lead, I ordered a side of ranch dressing and hot wing hot sauce to mix them together for my fries. Great move.
Maybe it was because I wasn’t super hungry but I didn’t think my lunch was anything to write home about. I would give Texas Roadhouse another shot though….next time I’ll order barbeque…I’m sure that’s what they are known for…not BLTs. :)
We finally made it home. I unpacked and now I’m just relaxing with the kids. I’ll definitely get back to healthy eats tomorrow!
What was the best thing you ate all weekend?
You look great lady! All those workouts and healthy eating have you glowing.
ReplyDeleteMy husband was in Vegas this past weekend. I'm going in June and can't wait!!! What a fun little road trip. BTW-I love the Texas Roadhouse bread basket (and every other bread basket for that matter!!)

I think I could be in the same league as you guys with the hot sauce - my daughter gave me a dozen hot sauces for Christmas - I've already gone through five of those, as well as 1 bottle of sriracha, and one 12 ounce Tabasco AND Frank's hot sauce.
My husband insists that I've burned off all my taste buds with all the hot shit I eat!
@Mellissa
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!!! I've been trying...well...except for the trip to Vegas. :)

I know this is a food blog, but can you please share what you use for makeup (foundation/powder, etc.) one day? I like the way it photographs (not too heavy, not white cast, etc.). You always look so cute!
