Amsterdam & A Change Of Plans
After we arrived in Amsterdam we decided to take walk to dinner. I just loved strolling along the streets of Amsterdam. What a darling city!
Upon recommendation of the hotel, we went to D’Antica restaurant, a traditional Italian restaurant. I knew exactly what I wanted to order: Pasta Parmesan. The waiter came out with a large pot of spinach spaghetti with marinara and mushrooms. He added some whiskey, lit it on fire, and put it in a giant parmesan cheese bowl and flambĂ©ed it. The bowl was actually a huge parmesan cheese wheel!
Fabulous! On top of the pasta was scrapings of the parmesan from the wheel.
We enjoyed the sights while walking back to our hotel, the Sofitel.
We also stopped at Renee’s for ice cream cones. They had a myriad of gorgeous desserts for sale.
I received a call from my mom who told me that my dad (who’s been sick for awhile) wasn’t doing well and to come home. After I gathered my wits and had my husband work on flights, we discovered that only I would be able to come home then next morning and they would have to finish out the last two days of the trip.
The next morning, I grabbed a cab, went to the Amsterdam airport and took the long flight to LAX where my sister in law picked me up and took me to see my dad.
Over the last few days, he has improved a bit but the situation is still serious. I’m so glad I flew home when I did.
Since things have calmed down a bit, I decided to start photographing my food again. My husband and kids arrived back in Los Angeles late last night. I went with him to take the kids to his sister’s house and we went to pick up breakfast at King Taco.
Egg, ham and cheese burrito. Heaven.
Around lunch time, my dad had some visitors who brought a deli platter from Brent’s Deli. I was still full from breakfast so I made a half a roast beef sandwich and had some Cole slaw.
There’s so much leftover, I’m sure we will be having it for dinner.
Please keep my dad in your thoughts and prayers. I plan to stay here through tomorrow night and go back to San Diego to get unpacked, laundry done, etc and then come back here.
