Birthdays & Broken Bones
I have to say it was quite the weekend. It didn’t all work out the way I had hoped but the memoires I made with my best friends will last forever.
It all started Friday morning. I got up early to get dressed and packed for Annette’s birthday weekend at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach. Breakfast was toast with peanut butter and the last of the pineapple.
I dropped the kids off at school and then picked up Lisa and headed to Starbucks.
Yes, the Barbies came along too!
We drove to South Coast Plaza where we did a bit of shopping. My friend Lila has a friend who works at Van Cleef and Arpels (nice friend to have!) so we stopped by and were treated with some bubbly!
Drinking champagne in a fancy jewelry store is kinda cool. :)

We continued the fun at Quattro Cafe for some wine and lunch.

The party moved on to Pelican Hills hotel next. We checked it and promptly started celebrating.
We put the music on and started dancing. And that’s when I thought it would be funny to run and jump on the bed. Well, I must have taken a wrong step or something because the next thing I know is that I heard something pop in my foot and it really hurt. My fabulous nurses put ice on my foot, went out and bought an Ace bandage for it and wrapped me up well. We had big plans on going out to Javier’s for dinner but that got scrapped and food was picked up instead. I felt like such a awful loser friend. Everyone was super cool about it and we ended up having fun anyway. I love my friends.
Yesterday morning when I woke up, my foot didn’t feel any worse so I thought that was a good sign. We ordered breakfast burritos which were amazing!
Then I decided to unwrap my foot and take a look. *WARNING: Nasty photos below!*
Yeah, it was bad. Lisa promptly took me to Urgent Care.
Time for the x-rays!
Not only did I break my tarsal but I SPLIT it! Disgusting.
They wrapped me back up, gave me some crutches and told me to call my orthopedic surgeon. Ugh.
I wasn’t going to let a broken foot ruin the rest of the weekend. I didn’t see any reason that I couldn’t join the rest of the girls at the pool.
Just trying to survive. :)
I enjoyed a delicious Cobb salad for lunch:
We came back to the room, hung out for a bit and then got ready for dinner.
Ready to go!
We finally made it to Javier's!

I ordered the taco & enchilada combo. Delicious. I also ate about a basket of chips. :)
After dinner, we went to Landmark so the girls could dance and I could watch. :) Eventually we made it back to the hotel to sleep.
Yesterday morning I slept in, slowly (because everything I do now is slow) got packed and dressed and headed out to the beach house that my husband rented. His family is also staying here so it’s a full house!
The view here is amazing! I planted myself in the window seat and had everybody wait on me. I enjoyed some wine, cheese and crackers while admiring the view.
Dinner was a barbeque of hot dogs, hamburgers and steak. I had a bit of each but no picture. Camera too far away.
After dinner, everyone took a walk on the beach while I watched the sunset from the house.
Tomorrow I will be seeing the orthopedic surgeon and most likely will be having surgery on Wednesday. Oh well…I guess it could be worse right??
Have you ever broken a bone? This is my first!
I want to feel sorry for you...but I'm too jealous of how FABULOUS you look!!!

ReplyDeleteAhhh! Thank you!!
Oh no! That stinks - but sounds like you were able to have a great weekend even with that stuff going on. Hope your recovery is quick!
ReplyDeleteIf nothing else, you'll have to teach your kids to pour the wine and slice the cheese for you!

I have! my foot, also....no surgery required, but cast- crutches, and it was in the snow! ugh. Hope you heal quickly. The rest of the weekend looks fabulous - love Javier's, too!
ReplyDeleteAll the best for you. I had several casts and had already been often on crutches.
ReplyDeleteBest regards,

So sorry to hear about your foot - it looks horrible! But, you seem to be taking it in stride!
ReplyDeleteOh dear! I hope your foot heals well, and quickly!
ReplyDeleteAh! Nothing like a broken foot to put a stop to the dancing. I'm sure you'll be back to your old self soon. Sorry to hear it.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a photo of a brilliant center piece and good choice of wine. It will always bring out the theme of the party. I cam across this catering in sydney when my friend had a party and they were really good in all of the decorations at the venue.
